ASCST PII Practical

T

This aspect of the ASCST PII examination is scenario based and typically follows a ‘patient journey’.  The content may cover any of the pathological conditions and cardiac investigations listed within the syllabus.

For example the scenario might describe a patient with coronary artery disease.  In this case the candidates should expect to:

·        Report on a resting ECG

·        Suggest the procedures that would be undertaken to evaluate the disease

·        Interpret the results of these procedures and suggest further investigations

·        Discuss equipment requirements for these investigations

·        Suggest possible treatments

The examination will consist of 5 ‘stations’.

Station 1 commences with the patient’s history that candidates take with them through the other stations.

At each station there will be questions to be answered and / or data to evaluate and interpret.  Please note that all answers are written down on the sheet provided, there is no oral questioning in this examination.

Candidates are allocated 5 minutes at each station.  At the end of the five minute period a bell will sound.

After ensuring that their unique examination number is attached to the answer sheet, the candidate will place the sheet in the box provided and then proceed to the next station.
